In short
  • DMC says a registration certificate "shall be valid for a period of five years from the date of registration", with renewal under section 22 of the Delhi Medical Council Act, 1997.
  • The council's How to Apply guide lists ₹2,000 for permanent registration of Indian graduates and ₹1,000 for renewal without late fees.
  • Doctors already permanently registered in another state apply under "Permanent Registration (RRE)" with a valid NOC from that council or an Indian Medical Register certificate.

To practise modern medicine in Delhi you register with the Delhi Medical Council (DMC), apply online at online.delhimedicalcouncil.org, then attend an appointment with your original documents. The council's registration page says anyone holding a qualification in the First, Second or Third Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 who "wishes to practise in, modern scientific of medicine in Delhi" applies for entry in its live register, and that the certificate "shall be valid for a period of five years from the date of registration". DMC was constituted in September 1998 under the Delhi Medical Council Act, 1997. What follows is what the council's website showed on 31 Oct 2026.

Which DMC registration category should you apply under?

It depends on where you studied and did your internship. The council's How to Apply guide sets out these categories:

  • Provisional Registration (Delhi State): MBBS from a Delhi college, starting internship in Delhi
  • Provisional Registration (Outside Delhi State): MBBS from outside Delhi, starting internship in Delhi
  • Permanent Registration (Delhi State): internship completed in a Delhi college
  • Permanent Registration (Outside Delhi State): provisionally registered with another state council and applying after internship
  • Permanent Registration (RRE): already permanently registered with another state council, with an NOC
  • Provisional and permanent registration for foreign medical graduates (Outside India), and OCI registration for graduates of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and USA

Once registered, renewal, additional qualification, NOC, good standing certificate, duplicate certificate and change of email or mobile are all listed under "Online Renewal & Services" on the same online portal.

What are the DMC registration fees?

The fees below come from the payment table in the council's How to Apply for Registration guide. The separate Fee Structure page on the DMC website showed "N/A" against every item when we read it on 31 Oct 2026, so confirm the amount on the online portal before paying. The guide also says the fee "once paid ... is not refundable whether the application for registration is accepted or not".

Which documents does DMC ask for at the appointment?

You upload scans online (JPG or PDF, up to 1,000 KB each) and produce originals at the appointment. The guide warns that an application "will be rejected if photo, signature and documents are not clear". For Permanent Registration (Outside Delhi State) the list is:

  • MBBS passing certificate issued by the college or university
  • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets
  • MBBS first, second and third professional examination mark sheets
  • Internship completion certificate issued by the college
  • Provisional registration certificate issued by the other state medical council
  • Photo identity card, passport, driving licence or electoral card

For Permanent Registration (Delhi State), where you were provisionally registered with DMC, the list is the internship completion certificate and identity proof. For RRE, bring your permanent registration certificate from the other council, the MBBS degree, any postgraduate degrees, proof of date of birth, photo ID and a valid NOC from that council or an Indian Medical Register certificate. In each case, if more than a month has passed since the internship completion certificate was issued, the guide asks for a notarised affidavit on ₹10 non-judicial stamp paper.

When do you renew DMC registration, and is CME required?

Every five years, since that is the validity of the certificate. The council says renewal under section 22 of the Act is done "on receipt of application in the prescribed Form along with prescribed fee". DMC accredits CME programmes and issues a CME credit passbook, and says only programmes it accredits are "eligible for credit hours". The pages we read did not state a minimum number of credit hours for renewal, so ask the council before you apply. Our guide to registration renewal and CME credits compares states. Separately, DMC Rule 8 requires you to tell the Registrar immediately when your address changes, or your name is "liable to be erased from the register".

How do you verify a doctor's DMC registration?

Use the council's doctor search at online.delhimedicalcouncil.org/smrSearch, which searches by name or by registration number with date of birth and shows a "Valid Upto Date" for each doctor. The council says the results are for immediate information and should be confirmed with its office. The NMC's Indian Medical Register search also covers doctors registered with every state council. See our glossary entry on the National Medical Register.

How do you contact the Delhi Medical Council?

  • Address: Ground Floor, B Wing, B Block-1, DMRC IT Park, Shastri Park, New Delhi 110053

Where must your DMC registration number appear?

In your clinic and on every prescription, certificate and receipt. Clause 1.4.1 of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 says: "Every physician shall display the registration number accorded to him by the State Medical Council / Medical Council of India in his clinic and in all his prescriptions, certificates, money receipts given to his patients." Clause 1.4.2 allows only recognised degrees and qualifying diplomas or memberships as suffixes after your name. Vitels prints prescriptions on your own letterhead, A4 or A5, with your registration number, which is checked when you sign up. Our free clinic letterhead maker gets the header right.
