How do you choose clinic management software?
Judge it on the doctor's consultation first, since that is where software gets abandoned. Then check what stops working offline, what the prescription print carries, the full price including per-doctor and per-message charges, whether you can export all records without permission, who at the vendor can open patient records, and whether the software suggests drugs or diagnoses.
Why the doctor's screen decides everything
A clinic switches software when the owner decides, and switches back to paper when the doctor decides. If the consultation takes longer on screen than on the pad, the doctor stops using it within a week, the records stop, and the reports the owner wanted are empty.
So test the consultation first, with the doctor at the keyboard, with a full waiting room in mind. Everything else on this page is secondary to that.
Questions that reveal the business model
Free software is paid for somehow. Ask directly: does the vendor sell prescription data, run advertising in the product, route prescriptions to a pharmacy, or aggregate records across clinics? A clear answer is a good sign whatever it is.
Vitels's answer: Medyzen is a managed-pharmacy company and builds Vitels to work closely with clinics. That relationship is disclosed on the pricing page and in the application. Prescription data is never sold or aggregated, there is no advertising, and nothing in the product routes a patient to any pharmacy.
- Vitels is built by Medyzen; this page is not independent advice
- Compare on the same checklist, not on feature-list length
- Ask for the roadmap in writing and treat it as roadmap
In Vitels
Eight questions, and how Vitels answers them
How fast is a repeat visit?
Ask the doctor to repeat yesterday's prescription without the mouse. Vitels: Start, F4, Ctrl+Enter. Three steps, printed.
What stops working offline?
Ask for the exact list. Vitels: queue, consultation, prescription print, billing and cached patient search work; new registration and search beyond cached patients do not.
What is on the print?
Ask to see a printed prescription. Vitels: your letterhead, logo, qualifications and registration number. No vendor branding, advert, QR code or pharmacy reference.
What is the full price?
Ask about per-doctor, per-patient, per-SMS and renewal charges. Vitels: no licence fee, no per-doctor fee, no per-patient fee. How Medyzen makes money is on the pricing page.
Can I export everything?
Ask for a CSV export in the demo, without a support ticket. Vitels: a clinic admin exports the full clinic data as CSV files in a zip, any time, no approval.
Who at the vendor can read records?
Ask whether support staff have standing access and whether you can see a log. Vitels: no standing access; any support access is reason-gated, time-limited and on your access log page.
Does it suggest drugs or diagnoses?
Decide whether you want software steering clinical decisions. Vitels: no interaction warnings, dosage checks or diagnosis prompts, permanently.
How does it handle several doctors?
Ask whether fees, timings, favourites and reports are per doctor. Vitels: yes to all four, and reception sees every doctor's queue.
The demo script
Twenty minutes with the vendor. Ask them to do each of these on screen.
- Register a patient whose family member already has a record on the same phone number.
- Issue a token, then have the doctor's screen show it without a refresh.
- Write a three-drug prescription using only the keyboard, and print it.
- Repeat that prescription for a second visit, and time it.
- Turn off the Wi-Fi. Call the next patient, write a prescription, print it, record a fee.
- Turn the Wi-Fi back on and show what synced and what failed.
- Correct a saved bill, and show what the day book now says.
- Export every record as CSV, right now, without a support ticket.
- Show the log of every time vendor staff opened a record in a clinic.
- State the total annual cost for two doctors and one receptionist, including every per-unit charge.
Questions
Straight answers
01Which is the best clinic management software in India?
There is no single answer; it depends on whether the doctor will use it daily, whether it keeps working offline, what it prints, what it really costs and who can see your data. Run the checklist on this page against any product, including Vitels.
02Is free clinic software safe to use?
It depends on how it is paid for. Ask whether the vendor sells data, shows adverts or routes prescriptions. Vitels is free because Medyzen, a managed-pharmacy company, wants to work closely with clinics; it does not sell data, show adverts or route prescriptions, and that is written into the product requirements.
03Should I choose cloud or installed software?
Cloud software with real offline support gives you both: no server in the clinic, and a day that continues when the internet drops. Ask what exactly works offline, because some cloud products stop when the connection drops.
04Do I need ABDM-compliant software now?
Whether ABDM integration matters to you depends on the schemes your clinic is part of. If it does, ask the vendor what is live versus planned. For Vitels, ABHA linking is on the roadmap and not live.
05What should clinic software cost for a two-doctor clinic?
Prices vary, often with per-doctor or per-SMS charges. Ask for the all-in annual figure. Vitels has no licence fee.
