EMR software

EMR software for clinics in India that a busy doctor will actually use

An electronic medical record is only useful if the doctor writes in it during the consultation. Vitels puts the patient's history, the prescription pad and the queue on one screen, keeps every version of every visit, and prints on the clinic's letterhead. It is also the practice management layer: registration, queue, billing and reports.

What is EMR software?

EMR software (electronic medical records) is the digital version of a patient's chart in one clinic: complaints, diagnosis, vitals, the prescription and every past visit. Practice management software adds the operational layer around it: registration, appointments, queue, billing and reports. Vitels is both in one browser app, built for outpatient clinics in India.

EMR versus practice management software

Vendors in India use EMR, EHR, practice management and clinic management almost interchangeably, which makes comparison hard. The useful distinction is simple. The EMR is what the doctor writes and reads: the consultation, the prescription, the history. Practice management is what the front desk and the owner use: registration, appointments, queue, billing, reports.

A clinic needs both, and it needs them to share one patient record so the receptionist's registration becomes the doctor's chart without re-typing. Vitels is one application with both surfaces, and a doctor who also owns the clinic switches between them from the header.

Why doctors abandon EMRs, and what we did about it

Doctors stop using an EMR when it costs more time than paper. The usual causes are mouse-driven forms, a drug search that needs the full brand name, and screens that scroll. Vitels fits history, pad and queue on one 1366×768 screen, searches drugs as you type, computes quantity for counted forms, and saves and prints on Ctrl+Enter.

The second cause is distrust: records that can be silently edited, vendor adverts on the print, or a vendor that uses the data. Vitels keeps every version of a visit, puts nothing but the clinic on the print, and has a permanent rule against selling or sharing prescription data.

  • F2 add drug, F4 repeat last, F8 favourites, Ctrl+Enter save and print
  • Restored after a crash or reload
  • Hindi and English patient notice at registration, Devanagari rendering throughout

In Vitels

The record, written where the doctor already is

  • Consultation screen

Complaint, diagnosis, optional vitals, follow-up by chips or a date. Suggestions come only from the doctor's own past visits, never from a vendor list.

  • History beside the pad

Allergies, chronic conditions, last visit, last prescription and earlier visits in the left rail. Repeat from any of them.

  • Every version kept

Autosave on every change. Same-day corrections are stored as revisions. Earlier versions are visible to the doctor who wrote them.

  • Favourites and templates

Per-doctor favourite drugs and multi-drug templates for common conditions. Per doctor, not per clinic.

  • Prints on your letterhead

Logo, qualifications and registration number. Eight drug lines on one page. No Medyzen branding on any print.

  • Isolated per clinic

Clinics are separated by row-level security in the database. No Medyzen support role has standing access to records. Support access is designed to go through a reason-gated, time-limited tool that writes to your access log; that tool is not yet in service.

  • No clinical decision support

No interaction warnings, dosage checks or diagnosis prompts. The record is the doctor's decision, recorded exactly.

  • Yours to export

Full export of the clinic's records as CSV files in a zip, from the admin screen, with no approval needed.

Questions

Straight answers

What is the difference between EMR and EHR?

In practice, an EMR is the record inside one clinic, and an EHR is a record that moves between providers. In India the portable, consent-based record is the ABDM model. Vitels is an EMR today; ABHA linking and consent-based sharing are on the roadmap and not live.

Is Vitels a certified EHR?

We do not claim any certification. What Vitels does have: every version of every visit kept, an append-only audit log, and database-level isolation between clinics.

Can I keep using my own drug names?

Yes. Search the shared drug list or add a clinic medicine with your own short name. Clinic medicines stay inside your clinic and leave the pad when archived.

Does the EMR work offline?

Yes. The last three visits for each patient on today's queue are cached on the device, the drug list is cached with a version check, and a consultation can be written, saved and printed with no internet. It syncs when the connection returns.

Who can read the clinical notes?

Clinical notes are written by the doctor on the consultation screen. Staff in your clinic can open a patient's record. Clinics are separated by row-level security in the database, so one clinic cannot read another's records.

Does it cost anything?

No licence fee, no per-doctor fee, no per-patient fee. The pricing page explains why: Medyzen is a managed-pharmacy company and builds Vitels to work closely with clinics. That relationship is disclosed, never hidden.
