Prescription app for doctors

A prescription app for doctors in India fast enough for a short OPD visit

Vitels is clinic management software for Indian clinics with a keyboard-first prescription pad: a repeat prescription takes three steps, and a new one is drug search, frequency and duration without leaving the keyboard. It prints on your own letterhead in A4 or A5. It runs in the browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so there is nothing to install, and it has no licence fee.

In short

What makes a prescription app fast enough for an Indian OPD?

Three things: the repeat visit, the keyboard and the doctor's own lists. Most OPD visits are follow-ups, so repeating the last prescription has to be one key. New prescriptions have to be written without reaching for the mouse. And the medicines a doctor writes every day should be one keystroke away as favourites and templates. Vitels's pad is built around those three; the full module is on e-prescription software.

Do I need to download an app to write prescriptions in Vitels?

No. Vitels runs in the browser at app.vitels.in. Sign in with your +91 mobile and an OTP on the clinic computer, a tablet or your phone. The layout fits each screen: the three-zone consultation screen on a computer, a collapsing side rail on smaller laptops and tablets, and a single column with tabs on a phone.

The keyboard shortcuts are for the clinic computer, where most prescriptions are written. On a tablet or phone the same pad works by touch.

How fast is it in practice?

A repeat visit is three interactions: Start, F4, Ctrl+Enter. A new three-drug prescription fits on the screen at 1366 × 768 without scrolling the page or any column, so nothing is hidden below the fold while you write. We have not yet timed the repeat visit with a doctor in a real OPD, so we do not quote a number of seconds.

Will the prescription meet the rules on what it must show?

The print carries the clinic letterhead and the doctor's registration number, which Vitels requires before printing. What else a prescription must contain, such as generic names, is the doctor's responsibility under the professional conduct rules; see generic name prescription rules. For a one-off paper pad, the free prescription pad maker prints a letterhead pad from the browser.

In Vitels

What is on the pad

Each item is live in Vitels today.

  • Repeat in three steps

Start the visit, press F4 to repeat the last prescription, Ctrl+Enter to save and print. Any earlier prescription can be repeated from the history.

  • Keyboard-first

F2 adds a drug, digits pick frequency and duration chips, Esc returns to the drug box, Ctrl+Enter saves and prints.

  • Favourites and templates

F8 opens your favourites. Multi-drug templates for the combinations you write often. Both are kept per doctor.

  • History beside the pad

Allergies, chronic conditions, the last visit and earlier prescriptions sit in the left rail while you write.

  • Your letterhead

Prints with your logo and registration number, A4 or A5, with no Vitels branding. Eight drug lines fit on one page.

  • Computer, tablet or phone

Runs in the browser. On smaller screens the consultation becomes a single column with tabs.

  • Works offline

Write, repeat and print a prescription when the internet drops; it syncs when the connection returns.

  • No suggestions

The pad never suggests a drug, a dose or a diagnosis. It records the doctor's decision.

Test any prescription app with a stopwatch

Use your own five most common prescriptions and a real follow-up patient.

  1. Time a repeat of last week's prescription, from opening the patient to the printed page.

  2. Write a new three-drug prescription without touching the mouse.

  3. Save it as a favourite and use it on the next patient.

  4. Print in A5 on your letterhead and check the registration number and the absence of vendor branding.

  5. Switch the Wi-Fi off and repeat a prescription.

  6. Open the same patient on your phone and read the last prescription.

Not for everyone

What the pad does not do

We would rather you find this out here than after you have moved your patients in.

  • Drug interaction warnings, dose checks or diagnosis suggestions: none, by design.
  • Sending the prescription to the patient on WhatsApp: not available.
  • Digital signature on the prescription or teleconsultation: not available.
  • A native app from an app store: Vitels runs in the browser.
