Who registers with the Gujarat Medical Council?
Doctors of modern medicine who practise in Gujarat. The council works under the Gujarat Medical Council Act, 1967 (Gujarat Act No. 10 of 1968), which the GMC site describes as "An Act to consolidate and amend the law regulating the registration of persons practicing modern scientific medicine in the State of Gujarat." Section 16(7) of the Act requires every registered practitioner to display the certificate of registration "in a conspicuous part in the place of his practice". Graduates of Gujarat colleges, graduates of colleges outside Gujarat and foreign medical graduates each have their own instructions on the registration pages. For how state registration sits beside the national register, see our state medical councils overview.

What documents does GMC permanent registration need?
For graduates of Gujarat institutions, the council asks you to bring the following in original with one photocopy:
- Printout of the application form, physically signed, and the appointment details showing the payment transaction ID
- School leaving certificate, birth certificate or HSC/SSC marksheet showing date of birth
- MBBS provisional registration certificate issued by the GMC

Graduates of colleges outside Gujarat also need their final MBBS Part 1 and 2 marksheets, their existing state medical council registration and a signed self-declaration and undertaking for inter-state registration, which the council links on the same page. Foreign medical graduates need the screening test result, eligibility certificate and an NOC from any other state council they are registered with. If you are still putting the clinic paperwork together, our documents required to open a clinic list covers the rest.
Is GMC registration online or in person?
Both. The application and payment are online on gmconline.co.in. For permanent registration, "You or your authorised representative must be present at the Council office on the selected appointment date and time for verification and submission of the original documents", with one self-attested photocopy of each. The good standing certificate and NOC is marked "Online Process Do not need to Come at Office". The council says the permanent certificate is issued within a maximum of one month after verification, and asks applicants not to call or visit about it in that time.
Does Gujarat require renewal and CME credits?
The GMC's CME guideline says "A Physician should participate in professional meetings as part of Continuing Medical Education Programs and should earn 30 hours per year or 150 Credit Points for every 5 years." It adds that CME data will be "counter-checked at the time of renewal of registration". The registration list on the site, read on 31 Oct 2026, has no renewal service and no renewal fee, so confirm with the council before relying on any renewal date. CME credits are tracked through the council's CME Online section. Our guide to medical council registration renewal and CME credits compares states.
How do I verify a doctor's Gujarat registration?
Use the "Search Doctor" box that appears on every page of gmcgujarat.org. For a national check, the Indian Medical Register search on the NMC website lists doctors registered with state medical councils and can be searched by name, registration number, year or council; the NMC notes that "This data is being updated." Requests to verify or confirm a registration go to noc-confirmation@gmcgujarat.org, according to the contact page. See also our note on the National Medical Register.

Where must the registration number appear?
On prescriptions, certificates, money receipts and in the clinic. Clause 1.4.1 of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 reads: "Every physician shall display the registration number accorded to him by the State Medical Council / Medical Council of India in his clinic and in all his prescriptions, certificates, money receipts given to his patients." Clause 1.4.2 limits the suffixes after your name to recognised degrees and qualifying certificates or honours.
