West Bengal Medical Council registration What the council lists online, where to apply, and what we could not confirm.
West Bengal Medical Council registration has been fully online since 2 Jan 2024, and the council publishes its process, fees and renewal rules at wbmc.wb.gov.in. That site did not respond when we checked on 31 Oct and 1 Nov 2026, so this page sets out only what we could read from the council's own pages and the NMC, and leaves fees and renewal terms to the council.

- The council says it is "an Autonomous Body constituted under the provisions of the Bengal Medical Act 1914".
- Its notice of 2 Jan 2024 moved registration to a digital platform and said no offline application for registration would be received from then on.
- Doctors already registered must update and validate their mobile number and email before using any online application.
To register with the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC), apply online at wbmc.wb.gov.in: new applicants use the Online Registration tab, and doctors already on the register first validate their contact details through Update Contact, then log in to apply. The council stopped taking offline applications on 2 Jan 2024. Its live website could not be reached from our network on 31 Oct and 1 Nov 2026, and the address on the NMC list, wbmc.in, no longer loads. What follows comes from the NMC's list of state councils and from archived copies of the council's own pages, dated below. We have not stated fees, document lists or renewal terms because we could not read them at source.
Who registers with the West Bengal Medical Council?
Doctors of modern medicine who practise in West Bengal. The council's homepage, in a copy archived on 18 Jun 2026, describes it as "an Autonomous Body constituted under the provisions of the Bengal Medical Act 1914 and governed by the Rules & Regulations framed under this Act." Doctors already registered with another state council apply for a Subsequent Registration Certificate, described as final registration for those "already registered in any other state medical councils in India" who wish to practise in West Bengal. Our state medical councils overview explains how state and national registration fit together.

- Wait for the council's approval, then log in and use the forms
New applicants click Online Registration and follow the steps. The council also publishes a user guide on its site.
Does West Bengal require renewal and CME credits?
The council has published a notice on it, which we could not read. Its notice list, archived on 18 Jun 2026, includes "Information Regarding Validity of Registration Certificates, Renewal Process, and CME Credit Requirements", dated 12 Jun 2026, and the homepage links "WBMC Credit Point Guidelines". Neither document loaded for us, so we do not state a renewal period or CME hours here. Read the notice on wbmc.wb.gov.in before relying on any figure, and see our renewal and CME credits guide for how other states handle it.
How do I verify a West Bengal doctor's registration?
The council's Doctor Search, at wbmc.wb.gov.in/index.php/doctor_search, searches by any three characters of the doctor's name or by the exact WBMC registration number. The NMC's Indian Medical Register search covers doctors registered with state councils and can be searched by name, registration number, year or council, with the note that "This data is being updated." See our note on the National Medical Register.
How do I contact the West Bengal Medical Council?

Where must the registration number appear?
Clause 1.4.1 of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 reads: "Every physician shall display the registration number accorded to him by the State Medical Council / Medical Council of India in his clinic and in all his prescriptions, certificates, money receipts given to his patients." Clause 1.4.2 limits the suffixes after your name to recognised degrees and qualifying certificates or honours.
Vitels prints prescriptions on your own letterhead, A4 or A5, with your WBMC registration number on every page, and verifies the registration when you sign up. Set up the header with the free clinic letterhead maker, or see e-prescription software.
