In short
  • The council describes itself as providing "statutory registration, regulation, and ethical oversight for allopathy doctors in Maharashtra", under the Maharashtra Medical Council Act, 1965.
  • Its fee table lists provisional registration at ₹500, permanent at ₹2,000 and renewal at ₹500 plus a delay fine of ₹100 per month, each plus processing fees.
  • The online renewal form checks the doctor's CPD credit points against 30 and asks for an affidavit and indemnity bond when renewal is more than 3 months late.

To practise modern medicine in Maharashtra you register with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), and you apply online through its RMP portal at rmp.maharashtramedicalcouncil.org.in. The council's website says it "provides statutory registration, regulation, and ethical oversight for allopathy doctors in Maharashtra" and lists the Maharashtra Medical Council Act, 1965 and the Maharashtra Medical Council Rules 1967 as its governing law. Its fee page says these services "have been started online since 01.10.2015". What follows is what the council's site showed when we read it on 31 Oct 2026; check the portal before you pay, because the fee page itself says prices are subject to change.

What types of registration does MMC offer?

MMC's fee page lists provisional, permanent and additional qualification registration, renewal, good standing, NOC and duplicate certificates, among other services. Every amount carries the note "plus processing fees", so the total you pay online will be higher than the figure in the table.

The RMP portal also carries a separate permanent registration form for doctors already registered with another state medical council, and forms for change of address and an ID card.

Which documents does MMC ask for?

The upload list depends on the form. For provisional registration, the portal's document step asks for a passport size photograph, your signature, proof of date of birth, the marklist for the qualifying exam, the passing certificate, the internship letter and a bonafide certificate.

Permanent registration builds on the provisional one. The portal tells applicants to "Review prefilled details from your provisional registration, complete contact and internship information, upload documents, then review and submit", and the uploads include the internship completion letter, Aadhaar card and an affidavit where applicable, including one for an internship extension.

If you are already registered in another state, the permanent registration form asks for:

  • Passport size photograph (2 cm x 2.5 cm) and signature (2.65 cm x 1.40 cm)
  • Proof of date of birth (school leaving certificate, birth certificate, SSC or passport)
  • MBBS passing or degree certificate issued by the university
  • Internship completion certificates from the institute (Annexure I and II) and the university
  • Certificate of registration issued by your state medical council
  • Self declaration, undertaking form and original Aadhaar card

Foreign medical graduates get a longer list on the portal, which includes the screening test result issued by the National Board of Examinations, the NMC eligibility certificate, all passport pages showing travel, and an English translation of the degree with apostille.

How do you apply for MMC registration online?

  1. Create an account and sign in on the RMP portal (rmp.maharashtramedicalcouncil.org.in), linked as "RMP Login" from the council website.
  2. Fill in personal, contact and qualification details in the form for the registration you need.
  3. Upload the documents as PDF or image files. The portal warns that blurry or incomplete documents may lead to rejection.
  4. Review, pay the fee through Razorpay on the portal and submit.
  5. Track the application from your portal dashboard.

The council's office lists in-person visits and document verification from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday, so keep your originals ready in case you are called.

Does MMC registration need renewal and CME credit points?

Yes. Renewal of registration is a listed service at ₹500 plus processing fees, with a delay fine of ₹100 per month. The online renewal form compares the CPD credit points on your record with 30, asks for an undertaking when they fall short, and accepts proof of exemption for listed categories, such as deans of medical colleges and doctors working with the armed forces. If you renew more than 3 months late, the form asks for a notarised affidavit and a notarised indemnity bond on non-judicial stamp paper. The pages we read did not state the renewal period in years, so check the date printed on your certificate or ask the council. How can a clinic or patient verify an MMC registration?

The MMC portal has a doctor search on its website, and the council also publishes the Maharashtra Medical Register of practitioners "registered and Renewed upto 31st December 2022" as a PDF. Nationally, the NMC's Indian Medical Register page lets anyone search registered doctors by name, year of registration, registration number or state medical council, though NMC notes the data is being updated. See our glossary entry on the National Medical Register for how the national record fits in.

How do you contact the Maharashtra Medical Council?

  • Address: 189-A, Anand Complex, First Floor, Sane Guruji Marg, Arthur Road Naka, Chinchpokali (W), Mumbai 400011
  • Phone: 020 48556211

Where must the MMC registration number appear?

On your prescriptions, certificates and receipts, and in your clinic. Clause 1.4.1 of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 says: "Every physician shall display the registration number accorded to him by the State Medical Council / Medical Council of India in his clinic and in all his prescriptions, certificates, money receipts given to his patients." Clause 1.4.2 limits the suffixes after your name to "recognized medical degrees or such certificates/diplomas and memberships/honours which confer professional knowledge". Vitels prints every prescription on your own letterhead with your registration number, on A4 or A5, and checks the registration at sign-up. You can design the header with our free clinic letterhead maker.
