Software for general physician clinics

Software for a general physician clinic built around the walk-in OPD

A GP's morning is walk-ins, repeat visits, whole families on one phone number and a steady line of patients on long-term medicines. Vitels handles that day at the desk and at the doctor's table: find the patient by phone, issue a token, write and print the prescription on your letterhead, take the fee. It works offline and has no licence fee.

In short

What does a general physician clinic need from software?

A GP clinic needs software that keeps pace with a walk-in OPD. That means finding a returning patient or a family member from one phone number, a token queue that reception and the doctor both see, a prescription pad quick enough for a short visit and a repeat visit, a print on the clinic's own letterhead, and a fee recorded in cash, UPI or card. It does not need wards, a pharmacy store or a lab module.

What a GP's outpatient day looks like

A general physician's OPD is mostly walk-ins. Patients arrive when the clinic opens, after school, after work. Many are regulars, and many visits are repeats: the same family back with the next child's fever, or a patient on long-term medicines coming in for the monthly review and a fresh prescription. Certificates for sick leave or fitness come up through the week.

That mix decides what software must do well. The desk has to find a returning patient in a few keystrokes, and know which of four family members on one phone is in front of it. The doctor has to repeat or adjust last month's prescription without retyping it, and write a fresh one for a new complaint just as fast. Everyone wants to know who is next and how long the wait is.

Walk-ins, families and the queue

In Vitels, reception types the phone number first. If the family is already registered, every member on that number appears, and a new child is added to the same number. The patient gets a token from the day's queue, and the token reaches their phone on WhatsApp and SMS. A patient who steps out keeps their place.

Patients can also book through the Vitels patient app by scanning the clinic's QR code and choosing a doctor. Those bookings land in the same queue as walk-ins, so the doctor sees one list. More on tokens, statuses and slips on the patient queue page.

Repeat visits and long-term medicines

For a patient who comes back for the same medicines, a repeat visit in Vitels is three steps: Start, F4 to copy the last prescription, Ctrl+Enter to save and print. The copy is editable, so a changed dose or an added drug is a quick edit, and every version stays in the patient's history. Each doctor keeps favourites and templates for the prescriptions they write most often.

The follow-up date goes in at the end of the consultation, and the follow-up due list shows who should be back. Vitels records the doctor's decisions and repeats them quickly. It does not suggest drugs, check doses or interactions, or propose a diagnosis.

Certificates, prescriptions and the letterhead

Clause 1.3.3 of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 asks every registered practitioner to keep a Register of Medical Certificates, keep a copy of each certificate, and prepare it in the Appendix 2 form. Our free medical certificate maker and fitness certificate maker follow that form and run in your browser with no account. The prescription pad maker builds a letterhead with your registration number if you still write some prescriptions by hand.

Inside Vitels, every prescription prints on your letterhead, A4 or A5, with your qualifications and registration number and nothing from us on the page.

In Vitels

A GP's OPD day, mapped to Vitels

Each card is a live feature today. If something you need is not here, check the list further down of what Vitels does not do.

  • Families on one number

Type the phone number and every patient registered on it appears: parents, children, grandparents. Pick one or add a new member. Guardian recorded for patients under 18.

  • Daily token queue

Walk-ins and booked patients share one queue. Waiting, called, in consultation, done, skipped, stepped out. Reception and the doctor's screen stay in step within seconds.

  • Tokens on WhatsApp and SMS

Patients get their token number on WhatsApp and SMS, so a parent can wait outside or at home instead of in a crowded hall.

  • Keyboard-first pad

Drug search as you type, frequency and duration in one line. F2 add drug, F4 repeat last, F8 favourites, Ctrl+Enter save and print. Favourites and templates per doctor.

  • Letterhead print

A4 or A5 on your letterhead with logo, qualifications and registration number. No vendor branding, advert, QR code or pharmacy reference.

  • Fee and day book

Consultation fee in cash, UPI or card, A5 receipt, and a day book with totals by payment mode. A saved amount can only be voided with a reason.

  • Follow-ups and reports

A follow-up due list for recalls. Patients and collections by day, doctor and payment mode, with search and receipt download.

  • Works offline

Queue, consultation, prescription print and billing carry on with no internet. Only registering a new patient needs a connection.

Not for everyone

What Vitels does not do for a GP clinic

  • ABHA or ABDM record linking
  • Pharmacy stock, dispensing or medicine billing
  • AI features, drug suggestions, dose or interaction checks
  • In-patient beds, wards or discharge summaries
  • Online payment from patients
Questions

Straight answers

Can I keep a whole family on one mobile number?

Yes. Several patients can be registered on the same phone number. When reception types the number, every family member appears, each with their own history, and a new member is added in under a minute. Patients under 18 have a guardian recorded.

How fast is a repeat prescription for a regular patient?

Three steps: Start the consultation, press F4 to copy the last prescription, then Ctrl+Enter to save and print. The copy is editable before you print. Every version is kept in the patient's history, so you can also repeat an older prescription.

Do patients get their token on the phone?

Yes. Patients receive their token on WhatsApp and SMS. Patients who book through the patient app by scanning the clinic's QR code join the same queue as walk-ins, so the doctor works from one list.

Can I issue medical and fitness certificates?

Use our free medical certificate and fitness certificate makers. They follow the Appendix 2 form of the 2002 conduct regulations, run in your browser and need no account. Keep the copy and the register entry that clause 1.3.3 asks for.

Does it work when the internet goes down?

Yes for the queue, consultation, prescription print and billing; they work offline and sync when the connection returns. Registering a new patient needs a connection, so returning patients carry on as normal during an outage.

What does it cost for a single GP?

Core Vitels has no licence fee, no per-doctor fee and no per-patient fee, and you can get started for free. A second doctor with their own queue, fees and templates needs Vitels Pro at ₹999 per clinic per month, with a 14-day free trial.
